The Sacred Valley Project (Peru)
The Sacred Valley Project works to support Peruvian girls throughout their secondary education. In the mountains near Machu Picchu, less than 30% of rural girls will enroll in secondary school, but organizations such as Sacred Valley Project are changing this statistic!
The barriers to continuing their education beyond primary school are many, including the cost of living in a town with a secondary school, school uniform costs, school supplies, or the need to work for their families. There are also many rural Peruvian families that would prefer to send their son to secondary school before their daughter.
For less than $2200 per girl per year, the Sacred Valley Project can provide girls a safe place to stay, three meals per day, school uniforms, school supplies, academic mentorship, and much more. This helps to overcome barriers in continuing education that rural families face.
